10/30/11

Schmitz Schmay Schmii Schmoo, It's Orientation Week(s)!

So it begins!!

9.12.11 Day 1: VIP Introductions & Tech Set Up
VIP as in the Dean, Associate Dean, Tech Savy Crew, and a bunch of other people. We got our sweaters!! I do not know about other people, but that was one of the top highlights of the day for me! Warm sweater, what more can you ask for in school (oh.. nice colorful pens would be a plus too). We had to dress up professionally for the first day, so I went shopping in Union Square, what a legit excuse! Later during the day we just set up our lap tops and made sure it was compatible with .. I don't know what.. internet access?

 9.13.11 Day 2: Sample Lectures
We got a presentation on being professional & about ethics. Basically we have to be presentable and professional because we are not only representing ourselves, but our class and our school. We had our first lecture; which was interesting because I tried a new type of note taking method which I'll show later. I used the PDF X-Change Viewer where I can write and makes notes on the PDF file. We got a tour.

9.14.11 Day 3: Loupes

The hallway near somewhere... actually I don't remember where this was. I follow the crowd everyday because I don't know my direction and way around the school still. This was probably on the way to some portfolio or library workshop. I forgot to take pictures of the loupe I ordered. I'll take a picture when it comes in! They're merlow oakley radar glasses with magnification loupes in front.

9. 15.11 Day 4: (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BEN!!) Biomaterial Lecture
What?? The first feeling of "I'm lost" set in quite early on! HAHA..... But then I spent the first 10 minutes or more trying to upload my file and figure out the new note taking method. So by the time I actively listened, I was lost with what the professor would keep referencing back to.

9.16.11 Day 5: Kit Distribution Party
The faculty called this day "Christmas in September." We got boxes and boxes of instruments & materials. I should have taken a picture of my locker. The width of my locker is around the width of my body and  the height of the locker is maybe a head or so taller than me. I filled up my locker with all these instruments/boxes/etc from top to bottom! I thought the 2nd picture of the dam clamps was cool--as in, the little box that we stored the clamps in! It's like a jewelry box for dentistry.

9.17.11 Weekend 1: ASUC BBQ
BBQ with all the first year students from all the different schools at UCSF.

9.18.11 Weekend 2: Potluck
Delicious food!!!! Notice the tooth-pick in the white fruit bowl?

9.19.11 Day 6: Diversity
Our school is diverse. Learn how to appreciate it.

9.20.11 Day 7: Scientific Methods Research Presentation
More lectures & then presentation at the end of the day.

9.21.11 Day 8: White Coat Ceremony
It happens tomorrow!! My family came up today! I'm so happy that they're here, even though they can't stay for too long. They brought me soo much home made food and awesome instant foods and snackaroos as well! Love them!

This post was actually started weeks and weeks ago! But I never finished uploading pictures or saying what happened each day. But it's been too long, so I'll just post what I have for those who are still curious of what orientation week at UCSF entails. Look out for more old incomplete posts that I never got around to posting.
